Welcome to the world of Whispering Bay romance, where hot heroes and smart heroines collide to find their happily-ever-afters!

Allie Grant doesn't believe in second chances. She does, however, believe in the power of a permanent paycheck. So when a tipster reports that the soon-to-be demolished senior center in her hometown is haunted, Allie hightails it to Whispering Bay to get the scoop that could secure her dream job at Florida! magazine. What she finds, though, is far scarier than any ghost. Cue her ex-boyfriend, sexy construction foreman Tom Donalan.

When Tom catches Allie poking around his construction site, he quickly realizes his former high school flame is just as feisty as ever. And, heaven help him, her irresistible, mile-high legs still take his breath away. But Tom isn't about to delay the building's demolition because of a silly ghost story.

With neither of the stubborn exes backing down from their opposing positions, sparks fly. And, underneath the surface, the fire of their old attraction burns as hot as ever. When strange things start happening with increasing frequency around town, even a tough skeptic like Tom is tested. The question is, can Allie and Tom stop fighting long enough to get to the bottom of Whispering Bay's ghost problem - and the more important matter of mending their broken hearts?

That Thing You Do (Audible Audio Edition) Maria Geraci Carly Robins Audible Studios Books

While I liked Allie and Tom and their second chance at love, the quirkiness of the Bunco Babes and the ghost story were kind of a distraction for me. I understand that Allie came back to Whispering Bay to get the story of the ghost in the senior center, but I feel like that part of the book overshadowed the romance.
I know first books are a jump off point to give an overview of the town/family/company that the series will revolve around. And do look forward to seeing who's story is next, but I hope that subsequent books focus more on one couple and their story.
The writing was great, so I'm definitely going to give this series another chance to wow me.

That Thing You Do (Audible Audio Edition) Maria Geraci Carly Robins Audible Studios Books Reviews

I am not sure how I feel about this book. I guess I would say this book is “okay.” There were elements of this story that are great – the scoop that brings Allie back to her hometown, the relationship Allie has with her brother and his family. And as for Allie, I really like her. She is funny and snarky (when necessary), plus she is a writer which I understand. But there are parts that bother me quite a bit. I don’t like that Tom never really apologizes – or at least not in a way that is acceptable to me. And to me, it seems like there is not enough understanding by Allie’s friends and family members about the past and how it may still make Allie feel. I am also not a huge fan of Tom. TO me, it seems like he doesn’t know what he wants, and he isn’t always truthful with Allie. I can’t help but feel that if he was truthful with Allie about his feelings, the book would have been much better. But all in all, this was a good read.
This book is ridiculous and horribly done. It is extremely irresponsible to let teenagers con you into not telling your parents that your were involved in underage illegal activity. As the adult, the aunt should of known better and ripped the niece a new one. It is also irresponsible of the author to condone this behavior. Treating this serious matter so lightly is why we have so many DWI's today. Obviously, the author has no concern for the bad example she is setting for any teenagers who might read this garbage and be mislead. Totally disappointing read and an even worse example of how bad the human race is deteriorating. Totally disgusted with this authors disregard for mankind. How are teenagers suppose to grow into responsible adults if they are not taught boundaries. The difference between right and wrong, and that actions have consequences. It is the adults that must teach them these things. So they do not inadvertently harm themselves and others. After a tragedy occurs it not the time to be sorry. Especially, when a few preventive steps could save lives.
I absolutely, positively LOVED this story from beginning to end. I love the small town setting, but then I'm a little biased having grown up in a small town myself. So naturally, I tend to gravitate to these kinds of stories more then any other story. I loved all the wild little twists and turns in the story, and the big mystery of who really sent the letter. I can also relate to the being able to smell odd smells of loved ones who died long ago, as well as the feelings of having someone wrapping you up in a warm hug when I'm feeling sad or a little down. It happens to me all the time, but it usually happens when I least expect it. It's something I've never been able to really explain to anyone else, without feeling like a nut case. But It also makes me a big believer of the afterlife. How else can you explain it?

This was a fun, light romance that I really enjoyed. I love how it started out, and the entertwining of all the characters. What I really loved was the close friendship between Tom and his ex-wife. So many times you read about the turmoil a character goes through at the hands of their ex's, and I found this to be a very refreshing change. And while Allie's brother Zeke may have his little faults, he's a good man who does his best to do right by his family, even if he is overly protective at times. I find that a very admirable trait, coming from the way he grew up.

The slow-building storyline whips along with entertaining subplots, and interesting characters, are just some of the things that influence Allie and Tom’s rekindling romance.

This is the first time I've had the pleasure of reading this autor's work, but it won't be my last!!! I highly recommend this book to everyone.
I received this book from Writerspace in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my review.

That Thing You Do by Maria Geraci is my first book by this author. It definitely will not be my last. Allie Grant is a part time freelance writer for Florida! magazine. She wants to become a full time writer there so she can devote all her time to writing and give up her waitress job. There is a full time position opening up and it is between her and one other candidate. Whoever writes the best article will get the job. Allie wants this with all her heart.

An anonymous letter comes to her from her home town of Whispering Bay. It explains that the senior center is scheduled to be torn down and it is rumored it is inhabited by a ghost. Allie jumps at the chance to cover this story in her hometown. She is surprised to find when she gets there that her old boyfriend, Tom Donalan, is the construction manager in charge of tearing down the old senior center. Their relationship ended badly. Tom broke Allie's heart and then some. Yet neither has forgotten the other and there are still strong feelings in both of their hearts.

This book is full of love and laughs with a little bit of heartache also. You are just going to have to pick up this book to find how or even if Allie and Tom find their happy ever after. Although this is book one of the Whispering Bay Romance series it is a standalone with no cliff hanger.
